  • Kona 3 Digital Audio?

Posted by Dean Brennan on August 5, 2008 at 2:21 pm

I had a question about the audio inputs on the Kona 3. I have an HD-SDI feed from our routing system to my editing bay that provides a high definition signal. The problem is we still have analog audio coming into the edit bay and I don’t think I can input stereo XLR to the Kona 3 card because the Kona 3 just has Digital EAS Audio inputs.

Does anyone know of any work arounds to get my audio with my video or maybe a good analog to Digital EAS converter? Am I on the right track?

    Thanks ahead of time!

[Dean Brennan] “The problem is we still have analog audio coming into the edit bay and I don’t think I can input stereo XLR to the Kona 3 card because the Kona 3 just has Digital EAS Audio inputs. “

So you just need the audio into suites for playback and not for capture because obviously you’re capturing the audio embedded via HD-SDI. The Kona 3 has a pair of RCA analog audio outputs that you can easily feed to your edit suite. This is what we’re now doing.

AJA also has the ADA-4 A/D audio converter as well.

To clarify, you need the K3 breakout box to get the stereo RCA analog audio outputs. The card itself has no analog audio.

I use the ADA4 AJA mini converter for that purpose. It works fine:

Cool. I think the mini converter will do the trick. Thanks for all of your help!
