  • Kona 2 downconvert from HD to 625 results in buzzing luma / ‘gamut error’

    Hello there
In trying to track down why my playouts to digibeta are resulting in illegal white/black values, I’ve discoverered the following:

When the Kona 2 card downconverts 1080i material to standard def 625/25, it introduces a ‘buzzing’ at the top and bottom of the waveform parade, which is pushing my luma values above the legal level. The waveform monitor also displays a ‘gamut error’ message.

But when 625 is set as the native format (frame buffer), the problem goes away and all is fine and legal with no buzzing at all.

This was happening with my 1080i output from Final Cut Pro – but it also happens with the Kona’s own test pattern, regardless of FCP involvement. (output is SDI, no external ref generator being used)

My supplier and AJA themselves thought it was a faulty card – but I’ve now replaced it and the problem persists.

Could anyone fire any more suggestions at me to try – I’m running out of ideas and I need to get my HD programmes out to digibeta!

    many thanks
    Richard Overall

Did you check your Video Play back settings in FCP? If they are not right, it can result in strange things
