Is anyone else using Final Touch HD by Silicon Color and Kona 2 for display when working with footage from Final Cut 5 and uncompressed 10 bit 422 footage? We cannot match the output to the broadcast monitor in Final Touch. This is important, as we are doing final color correction in Final Touch.

The best setting we have found with the Kona control panel is to use the 601 color space, which of course doesn’t really make sense, as we are working with HD footage, so you would think the setting would be 709 and the gamma as linear 1.8, again not the Rec 709 gamma. Even with this setting the display is not quite accurate, particularly color saturation which displays undersaturated in Final Touch.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi Jack,

What broadcast monitor are you using? I’m using a PVM20L5/1. I too am outputting FinalTouch HD via the Kona2 but I don’t think we’ve experienced a mismatch in color symmetry. I’ll have to check when I get back to the facility this week.

When you say the color looks unsaturated in FinalTouch, are referring to the the color on your computer screen or the output from Final Touch to your broadcast monitor?

I don’t think I completely understand your workflow and the problem that arises from it.

I am not seeing this either, and I have been working in FT since April, if you are trying to match the FT display to the Kona2 you better have calibrated both displays to each other as well as.
Note too that if you are trying to match an LCD rather than the recommended CRT yes you may see differences.

send your config also, especially the AGP card.
