  • Kona 2 and FCP 5/Tiger slow to update video…

Posted by Tunaking on August 19, 2005 at 7:02 pm

Is it just me or is the Kona 2 very slow in updating the video out of the card when working in Uncompressed SD or HD. Like when I try to color correct uncompressed footage with the 3-way color corrector, the canvas screen updates immediately but the video output on the Kona 2 doesn’t update in the longest time (ten seconds or more). It just makes color correction a nightmare. I don’t remember it being so slow in FCP 4 HD.

Is there a way to make it faster?

Did you perform a clean install of Tiger, run all the updates, then install FCP 5.0 clean and then run all the updates? If you simply upgraded your OS and FCP, you’ll run into a lot of problems and slow downs.

Also ensure you’re running the latest Kona 2 drivers.

I have also noticed sluggish response for the three way CC.

I used to use the option F12 key to refresh frames but it seems that the dashboard has taken over that keyboard shortcut.

This is on a brand new, clean install of Tiger and FCP 5.0. On my Aurora system the 3wayCC response is immediate.

Go into your system preferences for dashboard and you can turn off the dashboard keyboard shortcuts to get your FCP functionality back.

I do notice some delay, but usually if I arrow back once and then forward it updates the display immediately and holds until I go to the next clip.

I’m using a clean install of Tiger and the newest driver. Xserve RAID for Storage. The F12 hint is a good one. Wish it were a lot faster.
