just got myself one of these little cams, and it’s pretty neat, despite being cheap as chips.

shot some motocross footage while out and about today. HD 16:9 720p @ 60fps. Can play all clips fine in Explorer. Can edit all clips fine in Trimmer, but on timeline, many clips become black in the Preview window (though frame thumbnails are fine) and render the same. Not nice.

    Any ideas?

Footage I shot yesterday in same format but 30fps are all fine.

Project is set to media properties the usual way.

    Win XP SP3 on C2D 2.4ghz. Vegas 9c 32bit

Vegas does not support every wacky format that camera makers can think of. It’s interesting that you put a space between AVC and HD because while this camera shoots AVC in HD it is not “AVCHD” which is a supported standard. Unless you are shooting high speed scenes with the intent of slowing them down, it makes no sense to shoot 60p. The TV standards for playback are 29.97 or 25.

Footage I shot yesterday in same format but 30fps are all fine.

Then I would continue recording in 30p or be prepared to convert the 60p footage into something Vegas can edit.

    thanks for the reply, John

shooting 60p because it’s fast action footage, which I indeed will be slowing down.

re the black preview: ironically, after I posted the request, Vegas started to show ALL frames in the Preview window, and render all as well. Who knows, eh?

    🙂

the camera is cheapie but surprising what one can get out of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNMsbfW1QqQ

I have had the same issue with video from the ZI8, but I have found if I simply change the preview quality setting it pops right back. It doesn’t seem to matter if I change the quality up or down, just changing it will bring back the icons, preview etc.

I know that makes no sense but it works
