FCP is great and working flawlessly with our DSR-25. Now I want it to work with our beta deck, a UVW-1400.

As I was advised I purchased a Keyspan USA-19HS. The UVW deck uses a 25 pin connector so I found a 9 to 25 pin adapter left over from an old Media 100 installation. Because both of the connectors have nuts on them I had to purchase a RS-232 male to female cable with screws on each end. So mechanically this should work, right?

I’ve verified that the computer is seeing the Keyspan adapter in Keyspan Serial Assistant. I’ve turned on both RS-422 Deck Control and Key Serial under Network Port Configurations. I’ve tried every possible setting in FCP’s “device Control Pre-sets” (where I’m using a copy of “Black Magic NTSC 29.97” to set the device and specify RS-232 (UVW-1400), Still FCP tells me “No Communication” with the deck (and yes I’ve switched it to ‘remote’ from ‘local’). I’ve also experimented with powering on the computer and deck in different orders.

And just in case this matters, this deck is from our Media 100 installation where it communicates perfectly through Pipeline MediaDeck Pro and another 3rd party serial port.

For what it’s worth, the LED on the adapter is flashing rapidly.

Okay, Bovines. WHAT am I missing? Something hardware-related, software-related, system-related? Or simply stupid me-related?

    Thanx!
