  • keying out and slow motion, what is the proper workflow?

    hellow guys,

creative cow has been my resource throughout my animation career, it’s only now that i’m involving myself in projects that have footage in it (i usually do motiongraphics) now my concern is, if you would be doing a project that would require keying out and slow motion, is there a special workflow that goes with it or the sequence of process wouldn’t matter? like if we go key it out first then twixtor it would it be different from twixtoring it then keying it out? we have a significant amount of footage so a quality workflow might prove useful in the long run

thanks guys! this is my first post here 😀

I’d recommend that you key before applying Twixtor.

Twixtor synthesizes new frames from the source material, but if it doesn’t generate perfect edges, it’d be very tough to key afterwards.

Better still to shoot at a higher frame rate (overcrank), then lower the frame rate in post for slo-mo, avoiding Twixtor altogether. Of course, this is not always possible.

    thank for that walter

figured it out myself earlier when doing tests, keying will definitely be a mess after twixtor because of the interpolated frames, such frames have edges that are hard to keyout

    😀
