  • Keying or Matteing to removing Shadow on White Wall

Posted by Rachel Miller on February 23, 2012 at 1:56 am

    Hello,

There is a huge shadow on the side of the person being interviewed. Can I key out the shadow or matte the entire wall with white?

    Thanks,

    Rachel

Is the camera static and the person as well? Without seing the shot it is a bit hard to guess but if you have plenty of time and can rotoscope in Motion you might be able to do that. I doubt there is a quick and easy fix.

Yes the subject and shadow is static. It is a sit down interview.

People are rarely static. Any slight head movement and shoulder shrug make simple matting difficult. Keying usually creates an obvious edge. Also the wall needs to be simple.

If you have access to AE CS 5.5, the rotobrush makes rotoscoping much easier.
