  • Keyframing a tracking attribute for a word of basic text

Posted by Bruce Wittman on June 27, 2012 at 11:04 pm

    Hello Fellow CCs:

I am trying to keyframe a tracking attribute for a word of basic text in FCPX 10.04.
In the inspector, it looks like I can change the tracking attribute over time.
I have added keyframes. I can see the attribute change in the inspector over time.
However, the word text does not change in the viewer.

    Any suggestions?

Doesn’t work in FCP. You either have to use an existing title. Or use a custom title and create a build in that does what you want. Or use Motion.

    All the best,

So why have keyframe text attributes if it doesn’t work?
Do you think that it will work in the future, or was the keyframe attribute for text tracking was solution that was never planned?

No idea. It’s been there since v0 and it’s never worked.

Use the “Custom” title under the “build in/out” category. Under the “title” tab adjust “in tracking”, “in unit size”, “in spread” and “in duration” to suit.

There is also a “tracking” preset that may work for you. Forgot about that one.

I was trying this the other day as well and was repeatedly crashing FCPX 10.0.5. Very stable otherwise. Pretty frustrating that we can’t do basic text animation right in FCPX.
