keyframe problems!

When i add in keyframes (with no ease added) for this cog after it has moved in towards the stairs and stopped, it keeps ADDING in/ making an arch movement between these. I want it to just stop normally and then move to the next without this extra movement added.
any help is much appreciated.

You problem comes from the way the interpolation is set as default for the keyframes. Choose linear or break the points on the path.
