  • Keyboard shortcut for sending an audio clip to the primary storyline not working (or should I expect it to?)

Posted by Michael Garber on May 13, 2012 at 10:19 pm

I’ve noticed this one for a while, but after reading a post in the debate forum about techniques for cutting corporate pieces, I thought I’d post this one here.

So, I’ve got audio in the primary storyline. Going to use it as the “dominent” clip to cut some picture to. However, I have the need to slip the clip. Slipping forces the connected clip to move with it – which in this case, I do not want. So, I decide to turn the audio into a connected clip. Then I want to move it back up the primary storyline.

Now, I know that I can do this manually, but when I right click on the clip, I see that “move to primary storyline” is grayed out. Is this just a bug, a missing feature, or is there a reason why it doesn’t allow me to do this with audio-only?

    Thanks!

When I use the workflow that you’re using, audio as the primary storyline, I’ve used the position tool (P on the keyboard) to place my clips. But then again, I’m just now actually doing a couple of full projects in X.

    Hey Tony,

Thanks for your response, and yes, I was aware of that. Just wondering why the hotkey is grayed out for audio in FCPX. Wondering if there’s some reason, or if it’s just a feature left out.

And in the event it’s been left out, I think it should be brought to Apple’s attention.

Yea, please do leave feedback on the apple site! I’m still getting used to X so I’m probably not the most knowledgable at this point. I do try to help when I can 😉
