Keyboard shortcut for scrolling the timeline?

August 9, 2005 at 7:32 pmIs there a keyboard shortcut for scrolling left or right in the timeline? I’m editing a one hour show with MANY edits & EFX and I’m spending a lot of time just zooming in/out and scrolling. Other than mousing to the left/right arrows below the timeline, is there a faster way to stay zoomed in and still scroll with some precision?

August 9, 2005 at 8:07 pmJog controls are J-(left)K-(pause) L-(right)… Then there’s always help and the manual for the other zillion keyboard navigation commands.

August 9, 2005 at 9:44 pmActually, I know about the J-K-L keys. What I’m looking to do is scroll the entire timeline from the keyboard. I can do it by mousing the oblong shaped control just under the timeline or by clicking on the adjacent arrows. I’m looking for a way to do it without having to use the mouse, using only the keyboard. With a very long timeline, there is limited resolution for scrolling to a particular clip without zooming in and out constantly.
I wonder if the new Mighty Mouse can do this? Or control the zoom on the timeline? That would be nice…but I would still have to take my hands off of the keyboard to use the mouse. I’m looking for Power Edit techniques here!! More POWER!! (thanks Tim Allen) 🙂

I use the Bella Pro keyboard with a jog shuttle knob that does that trick very elegantly. Not cheap ($144 at MacMall), but it does lots of neat things…

August 9, 2005 at 9:54 pmshift+mouse scroll wheel will scroll the timeline horizontally
mouse scroll wheel will scroll the timeline vertically
shift+page up (or page down) will also scroll horizontally
page up (or page down) will scroll vertically
“h” button will switch to hand tool, allowing you to click-drag the timeline in any direction
command (apple key) + “+” or “-” will zoom the timeline in or out
hope these help,
