I have a bunch of keyable elements (flares, lower thirds, arrows etc) that I easily use in FCP, After Effects and Quantel just by dropping them on the top layer. When I try to use the elements in media composer they don’t key. Is it possible? Hopefully I’m just doing it wrong.

If they have an alpha channel, import them and set your import settings to either Alpha or Invert Alpha (probably Invert Alpha).

Do they have the “key” symbol on them when you look at them in the bin?

If not, then you do need to re-import them with alpha invert selected in the options.

Also, not sure if it has changed or not, but in the old days, keyable elements had to be premultiplied on black for Avid. Not sure if that has ever been adjusted or not. Keyable elements on a white background may not key properly for you.
