I just used Boris Chroma Key Studio to make a key,
but now I want to make the subject darker gradient like
(darker on the lower half than the top half)
When I put a gradient on a top layer and try Composite Mode
it also has effect on the background layer…
    How do I do this?
    Here’s a screenshot: https://www.zidazo.com/key.png

    Thanx for any tips.

    Hi Tony,
With the three layers as you have, try nesting the gradient with the foreground layer.
That way the composite mode of the gradient shouldn’t affect the background.

    That’s the trick I was looking for…
Again a different approach than Avid, but it makes perfect sense.
    Thank you.

I got an even better tip from Matt from Boris support:

you may want to use the BCC bright – contrast filter and use the pixel chooser parameters to isolate the area you want to effect.

Everything I wanted to do is possible with this effect,
    even the gradient.
This is really fantastic! Thanks Matt!

Yeah, Tony, that’s great but for you as a FC editor, is more important to lear how nesting works.
Is the way of grouping layers, and also to alter the FC rendering pipeline.
In FC the rendering pipeline is:
    – Speed
    – Effects
    – Motion Effects
    – Composite Modes
    – Transitions.
So if you want to, for example, apply an effect over a transition, you need to nest the transition first.
