  • Keeping time/date stamp from transferred Mini DV tapes

Hello. I am using Sony Vegas 7 to transfer some Mini DV tapes to then author to DVD. (Have authored DVD’s before but completely new to transferring) After searching and searching and not finding an answer in the forums or a configuration in Vegas settings, how can I keep the original date/time stamp from the Mini DV tape onto my transferred .avi file? The tape transfers just fine but in the file I veiw with the Vegas preview or viewing the .avi through Win Media Player there is no date/time stamp. Kind of important since they’re videos of my kid growing up. Thanks.

If the original shots were done in DV, this will not be possible without going down ons generation.

For some reason the DV codec does not really burn the Time Date stamp on video. Instead it encodes the signal digitally and the recorder or camera decodes the T/D signal and displays the T/D stamp in the picture. In other words it shows up on the analog output but not on the firewire signal.

You have two choices play the analog output and record it on another deck or camcorder, and then capture the new tape. Not recommended.

Best method would be to use the character generator in Vegas to manually time the dates in. or build tittle pages in DVD/A/ Recommended.
