keeping the same codec through my workflow
Following my posts in this thread https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/901054#901054 it struck me that I’m not being very smart.
Basically, I’ve got load of footage from my canon sx200is which pumps out mov files with, I’m told, the h264 codec.
The files are smallish, and when I render my final movie I can never get it to look so good for the same file size.
Which is when I realised, the bulk of my movie is the original clips at the same res and frame rate, so why do I have to incur the processing and degradation of rendering/transcoding when I should be able to spit out the same data as came from the camera. Sure, during transitions etc vegas pro (9c) will have to render new material, but for the rest of the stuff it would be nice if I could just keep the raw data, because I think the clips straight out of the camera offer a better quality/file size budget than what I can achieve.
But I can’t find an h264 option on my system. If it was possible, though, surely this would maintain the same quality as comes straight out of the camera, right? Sorry if I’ve confused anyone
