Kaleidescope effects, multiplying people/objects
I am creating an HD music video and I would like to “kaleidescope,” multiply, or span many copies of the main artist several times around the screen. This is an effect which has been seen time and time again. (Think new Intel commercials). Any help would be much appreciated.
Also, there is a Black Eyed Peas video – “Hey Mama” which utilizes this effect rather well, it can be seen here(check out the 54 second mark):

What are you looking for? There is no magic there. It’s all just multiple shots in multiple passes combined with each other. The intel ads use motion control cameras, most likely. Even without such extra equipment, it’s more a matter of planning the shots than execution in compositing. They key factor simply is figuring out how you want to “stack” your stuff in the scene and then shoot it accordingly. Once you have your footage keyed and cleaned up, you simply pop it on 3D layers and place them where you want them. Obviously you should have some storyboard or pre-viz to get it all together.
