JVC’s GY-HD110U Capture with other Camcorders

Sony HDV decks will play the JVC Tapes in 30p and apparently 24p will also capture but you will not see it on the lcd.

i tried on a sony deck and could not read it and also tried on a canon xl and could not even play it on its play back.
any body else got any sugestions

you played HD110 recorded HDV tape to a Sony HDV deck and it didn’t work at all?

It definitely should, are you sure it was set for HDV?
The Auto setting does not work well on the sony HDV decks.

I have a similar issue that I am dealing with. I am trying to capture JVC footage with a Sony deck into FCP. I see the timecode, but the screen stays black.

did you go into the sony deck menu and switch
the DV/HDV switch to HDV?

if its on AUTO it will not work.

Yes, I set the switch to HDV. I am able to capture footage shot on my Sony V1U in 1080i without any problems. When I put the tape with the JVC footage in the deck, it will play out to the monitor connected directly to the deck, but in my FCP Log and Capture window I only have a black screen. I do see the timecode and I can still control the deck from the L&C window within FCP.

are you connected via firewire?

I have not tried that, but I know the component outputs should work if you have an aja or black magic capture card.

I am connected via firewire. Not sure what is in the computer. I’m on the 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.

ah, thats why its not working.

you might have to find someone with that deck and provide
a hard drive to capture to.

I have one, but I’m in Oregon.

I was hoping to avoid that. So the issue is with the iMac hardware not being able to process the signal through firewire?
