I’m trying to import media recorded on a JVC HM100 to Avid Media Composer v3.1.1. My media is recorded as an MP4, and I get the message that Avid does not support this file when I try to import. As a test, I changed the camera settings to “MOV” and tried again. This time I was able to import the media, but the video doesn’t appear. I can only hear the audio.

I’ve seen tutorials that say to use the “Link to AMA Volume” however, the version of Avid I have does not have this.

Is there a work around or do I need to upgrade avid? I have the academic version.

    Thanks for your help!

Avid Academic is the same as the full version. Only difference is the price.

Well, that camera has two modes of shooting. Native XDCAM recording, or as a QT file. The QT file is in a codec that is native to Final Cut Pro. If you don’t have Final Cut Pro, then you don’t have the codec that the camera shot in. Best thing to do when using that camera with Avid is to NOT shoot as a QT file.

You might have to get a decoder to read this QT movie…
