I am trying to capture HDV footage shot on the jvc gy 110 into fcp pro 6 using a sony A1 hdv camcorder as a deck. the tapes don’t play back on the sony at all, just blue screen. do i have to get a jvc gy 110 to capture the footage??

Yes. You need the hd110 or a jvc deck to get the footage. Sony and jvc are two different flavors of hdv.

A cheaper route would be looking for a used GR-HD1 or JY-HD10. They use the same format assuming you are shooting in 30P not 25P. That will probably be cheaper than any JVC deck.
