    Hey,

I just got a Nikon D7000 and am shooting excellent footage in 1080p 24fps. The preview in Vegas is absolutely unusable, though, as it’s extremely choppy. I tried searching up on it but I came to no conclusive answers, plus most of them were written in 08. Am I doing something wrong or is this a very common problem? What is an easy fix for this (I read something about proxies… no clue how they work or what they are or if they will solve my problem?)

I’m running on a Quad Q6600@2.40GHz, 4.00 GB of DDR2 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb graphics card.

    Thanks alot!

One drawback has been the H.264 codec DSLR usees to record video. Most non-linear editing systems cannot play back these files in real time unless you have an extremely fast computer. There can also be reliability problems with a large number of files in the project

[Jesse Lim] “Am I doing something wrong or is this a very common problem? “

The only thing you did wrong was shoot video with a still image camera. lol 😉 But seriously… this IS the problem. Still image camera makers seem to think that they can abandon all standards and create whatever video format that pleases them. The problem is, they mostly create formats that can’t be edited easily and they forget to tell you that in the glossy brochure. So you didn’t do anything wrong. Everyone who buys a Canon 5D, or 7D, or T2i comes here with the exact same problem.

The easiest fix is to see if the latest version of Vegas Pro 10c can handle these files. You didn’t say what version you are using but if you are using a new camera with old software, you’ve found the problem.

If Vegas Pro 10c can’t handle the files, then the next solution is to work with proxies as you said using a program like VASST GearShift. This will only work if you can import the original files into Vegas because GearShift works from within Vegas to create the proxies. Otherwise you can see if CineForm NeoScene supports your camera and convert the files to the CineForm codec outside of Vegas. These should edit smoothly in Vegas.

I’ve had no problem editing D7000 footage in VPro 10.0c.

First thing I would do is to make sure your project settings match exactly the footage from the D7000 and go from there.

    My system is:
    Processor:Core i7-860 2.8 GHz
    Video Card:nVidia GEForce 9800GT 1GB

    Running WinXP-SP3 32bit, 4GB RAM.

    Cheers for now,
