I think it’s a good start, bit I’d say overall it looks a bit static. Maybe some type of motion/color in the background might help, rather than just flat gray. Most of all, I’d say a camera move would really help to make things seem more dynamic. Do you have to use all gray and black?…if not I would suggest picking a different color scheme. Overall, good start on the animation.

YES! GROWING VINES! Can I get a witness?!

Usually steeples are something that go UP instead of OUTWARD or IN YO’ FACEWARD. You might consider changing the direction of the movement on the steeple intro. Now it looks like it should be accompanied by a big timpani bounce. BEEOOWWM!

That type has no business doing what it’s doing. It’s unnatural for the eye to witness letterforms so stretched and twisted. Something more subtle would serve your work better. Also the tracking on the type looks a little wide. Bring the letters closer and they won’t be so chilly. Use a bolder face if you can.

The Radio Waves look like you just took them out of the can and threw them on the plate. Warm it up a little. This project proves that you’re pretty quick. Give some other stuff a go. Like DMFLR said above.

    Hey..

Def a good start… but I really HATE the way the “St John Fisher” text comes in…you can come up with much better then that… Also, I think the steeple would look better if it transitioned in without movement, seeing it’s a building…

im trying to do a 3d camera effect on the composition but im having some strange camera results. I’m using easy ease keyframes and if i copy 1 keyframe and put it next to the other (maybe a half second or so next to it) instead of staying at the same place, it kind of zooms out and zooms back into its origional position… what gives???

i tried that toggle keyframe thing, but im still having issues when i want to start another camera movement it still shifts before it does what i want it to do. Now I’m having ANOTHER problem… I’m trying to use the text preset “emerge” and i cant get it to have any effect on the text in my comp. When it plays the “animation” i can see a cursor moving through each letter of the word but the word just instantly appears without fading in. WTF

Maybe try a different font. And bring the tracking down some. Too much space between the letters looks artificial. some texture or lighting on the background would really help. A little bit off CC Spotlight (in Effects/Perspective) might help in that regard.

[zygotesoup] “i tried that toggle keyframe thing, but im still having issues when i want to start another camera movement it still shifts before it does what i want it to do.”

Believe it or not your problem has nothing to do with easy ease keyframes. Easy ease keyframes affect temporal interpolation, but what you’re experiencing is AE’s default auto-bezier spatial interpolation (you can change the default in Preferences > General > Default Spatial Interpolation to Linear, I recommend this). To fix your keyframes, select them and right click, then go to Keyframe Interpolation and change the spatial interpolation to linear. Note that if you want your camera to move smoothly around curves you’ll have to now go in and create the bezier curves yourself across the motion path (use a 4 view setup and the pen tool to change spatial interpolation visually). Linear spatial interpolation causes all of the motion paths to become straight lines.

[zygotesoup] “When it plays the “animation” i can see a cursor moving through each letter of the word but the word just instantly appears without fading in”

Make sure you remove any previous animation presets from the layer before you try to add a new one. If you have multiple text animators they can end up competing for your text layer. Start from scratch: delete all text animators on the layer and then try adding the preset.

Ok, so I’ve taken all of your suggestions into account and changed everything around a little…

FYI – I changed the background to yellow because it is one of our school colors. Let me know what you think, I’m still open to suggestions.

    Hey,

Totally agree with IanCorey, I don’t like how the letters come in, the waves too, looks very amateur compared to those vines. Make your logo bounce, put some action, etc.

Oh, by the way, you know, when you show your stuff to a group of people, in a forum, from Photobucket…you know, just make sure that there isn’t too many “offensive” stuff on your account, since anyone who can look at a photo or video of yours can look in your whole album.. you know…who cares, but these are the things you should think of before linking from Photobucket.

Anyway, good job, for a start.

I like what you did with the radio waves, however the building animating on still looks a little weird to me.

Have you thought about a nice slow craning camera move to introduce the steeple? You could start with the camera close in at the base, slowly back out as you rise up the steeple. This could prove a very nice effect if the vines are 3D layers as well, you could put your own little flourishes on it if it’s too simple for your tastes.

Sometimes simple is elegant though, I would just fade to black at the end.
