From those who have kicked the tires on the public beta has anyone tore into a large project and if so how did it handle it as it got above 100 MB or so?… I have heard some encouraging things about this new release but have not heard anything about this one small issue yet.

    Thanks and Happy Friday!

My guess is that imported 2.0 projects are not the same as CS3 created projects, and I doubt anyone is trusting the public beta for production work.

I just figured someone may have loaded up some old elements to see how it did. I look forward to hearing more about this release!

CS3 can handle the large projects a lot better than 2.0. The memory leak issues are largely solved.

    Hi Peter,

[Peter Corbett] “The memory leak issues are largely solved.”

Not trying to argue or question your statement but how have you come to this conclusion?

I think it’s best characterized as “progress has been made”.

Not sure I’d stand on the deck of an aircraft carrier in front of a banner and proclaim it bulletprooof…but yes, safe to say “significantly better” I think.

Your post cracked me up, with it being election time and all (No Make the campaign ads stop, unless I am cutting them at full price… You got to love the VO’s…) As long as improvements were made and I am sure they were because the issue must have been addressed then I am Jazzed. When I was fighting the leakage issues (Yuck… the not so fresh feeling, where did I leave my task manager again?) and before I pared down my project sizes I was tired of Pro acting up but I have to say that Adobe is on the right track for sure. If they just stay the course and don’t lose PC momentum going after the Mac market then all will be good. There is always potential for improvement and cutting is so varied that there will always be hurdles for some but all in all I welcome this release and think it will help my work flow out.

Premiere Pro does indeed have much better handling for larger projects. In fact, Premiere Pro can now “optimize” the application for performance or for memory. Take a look at the public beta and give it a shot.

David, larger projects are definitely more stable memory-wise, but you still have to careful with projects using very large numbers of very large pixel dimension images. But overall much better than 2.0. Now if BlackMagic can release some Vista64 drivers, we’ll be on the way.
