Just bought a new G5 – where to buy RAM?
Hi all,
So I was considering getting one of the new iMac’s, but at the last minute decided to take the extra plunge and get the Dual-core 2.0 powermac. I’ll manage to squeeze it in to my budget somehow. I just won’t eat for a few weeks… 😉
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good place to get RAM? Most people seem to recommend crucial.com. Does anyone know of a Canadian equivalent? Crucial will ship to Canada, but it would be faster and less hassle to buy it from a Canadian company…
Also, I’ve checked the crucial site and I’m confused about the choices I have when it comes to RAM. I want to get 1 gig (2×512) – it’s all I can afford right now. Can someone tell me the difference between these two, and if I’d be alright going with the less expensive one:

Congratulations on your purchase. you will be much happier with the PowerMac fro FCP over the iMac.
Crucial is rally the way to go as it is tried, tested, and recommended. RAM is not really the place to skimp on your computer as bad RAM can cause headaches. Crucial backs all of their RAM up and will take it back if you aren’t happy. I am in the states so I don’t know a Canadian company for you, but you might want to search the archives of this forum. I seem to remember somebody talking about where they could get some nice Canadian sold RAM 😉 http://www.transintl.com has also been recommended.

Thanks Graham. I take it you’ve ordered from them in the past? I like the fact that they’re only in Victoria (I’m on the mainland). Do they have any sort of guarantee on the RAM they sell?

Heh, yeah, I didn’t even notice the ECC part in what I posted until well afterwards. It also pays to re-read your own posts. 😉 Thanks for the info though, looks like I made the right choice by default.

I think you will find an answer on the site with regards to Guarantees.
If not I have never heard of anyone in Victoria Mac Users Group not being satisfied with the product or service… I have purchased several ram thingies along with 3 hard drives over the years.
