Sorry for the lack of a better word for it, but I have a colleague struggeling with the crawl text function in FCP.
It seems like the field order on the text is opposite of what it should be (ie. the text is “jittery” when played back, but stands rock solid when he freezes playback. Running G5 with BlackMagic Decklink (same as me, and I don

Live Type’s crawl is better, try it.

That’s not the problem I think, but I’ll tell them to give it a try, thanks.
    Anyone else?

Is it just text, or do they have problems with graphics and stills too. Dose static text look good or just when it moves? The FCP title has always been crap, in my experience, for serious titling. I’ve had plugin conflicts that cause strange things to happen. Remove all but the base set and see if that helps, I hope this suggestion dose.

    Hope this helps-

    Matthew,
We see this problem every day. It’s due to a lack of understanding how FCP’s RT Extreme effects preview works and lack of a proper FCP workstation config.

    Regarding previews:
You can either work in lower resolution and drop frames on purpose to get a RT Preview by working in “Unlimited RT”, or we can work in higher resolution, but we may not get a good preview by working in “Safe RT”. Supposedly, this will be much better in FCP 5 with “dynamic previews”. For highest quality work in Safe RT.

    Regarding setup:
This also boils down to the fact that most folks rip FCP outta the box and rarely read the manual, especially regarding proper setup–check page 55 if you want to make sure your FCP workstation is set up to spec. Basically, hook up a video monitor and powered speakers to your DV Deck or Camcorder as you work. Related to this problem is, “I can’t hear my audio!”

    With that said:
The first thing you want to do is work in Safe RT. Change the RT Pop up menu to Safe RT.
Next, you want to make sure that you are rendering at full quality. Go to your Sequence>Render menus (all three of them) and make sure that “Preview” and “Full” are checked.
Make sure all titles and graphics lie on whole, even numbers on the X,Y axis (Check this in the Motion tab’s “Center” parameter.
Finally, and most importantly, hook up a video monitor, so you can see the quality of your rendered graphics AS you work. The Canvas only shows a RT preview and not the full quality of your rendered graphics.

Like I said, we see this problem every single day, sometimes multiple times. Next time, do a search for faster answers, if you like.

Got a message from my colleague today. It seems like their ‘puter had reset some of the parameters for NTSC / PAL, causing the problem. While they were working in PAL, some settings suddenly were set to NTSC. Well, thanks anyway guys, you’re the best:-)
