I’m working with a member at our access station on a project which is primarily a talk with powerpoint slides. They gave me the powerpoint file which I exported to JPGs on a Windows machine. I then dropped those into FCP 5.1.4.

Bringing JPGs into the timeline, either dragged from the bin or sent from the viewer, will intermittently cause FCP to crash. The same JPG will sometimes work fine, but then brought in again it crashes. Sometimes it’s the first one, sometimes the fourth.

Is there a simple step I’m missing or a workaround? I know the Keynote trick for generating a quicktime file, but I haven’t dealt with that yet because these are all static files with no powerpoint transition effects and the time to parse a quicktime video out into 40-something different segments seems counterintuitive.

    I’m using a 2.16C2D iMac with 2G of ram and OSX 10.4.11.

    1. Never use JPEGs in a video timeline.
    2. You can batch convert them to TIFF or PICT with Automator or Photoshop
    3. Keynote can export stills (If you have the Apple book… look at the Appendix ion the DVD)
