  jpeg resolution conundrum

  I’m working on an archival documentary of a retired architect that utilizes a lot of his photos. He is a Mac user, views his photos, all jpeg’s, in iphoto.

  When I went to conduct preliminary interviews and pull photographs from his vast archive, I noticed that in iphoto I was able to zoom in to a close-up of his face and there was plenty of resolution and it looked relatively sharp.

  When I got back to my office with the raw jpeg’s (that were the untweaked digital camera originals) and looked at them in Photoshop CS3 on a PC. Zooming into the same photos, the resolution wasn’t there like it was in iphoto.

  Does Mac use a different jpeg decompression codec in iphoto? Is it available for use on a PC?
