    Hi all,

Like many others, we’ve had problems capturing VHS on the AJA IO LA since the beginning. When the new TBC firmware came out a few months ago, things improved- no more dropped frames, and much better stability- but there’s still an unacceptable amount of vertical jitter.

I get the impression that most people here were happy with this release, so I’m wondering if maybe my problems are present only because I’m working with PAL video (being based in Australia)? What kind of results have other PAL users had?

I noticed the newest beta firmware boasts “increased accuracy of PAL captures”… is this related to the problem I’m talking about? Anyone tried it yet?

    Cheers,

    -Bon

All I can say is that your observations are also true for me. Besides jittery you can also get flashes of green line at the bottom. The same is with U-matic and Hi-8. Our old system Matrox Digisuite with Edit* is noticeable more stable. But I would say this is happening only to the most damaged tapes. I also didn’t check with the last IO drivers.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I’ve also observed the green line at the bottom. I tried a couple of average VHS tapes, on a fairly new (low-end) deck.

Our now 10-year-old Media100qx system never flinched during VHS capture, including fairly poor quality tapes captured from an old, low-end deck. This has been my one main criticism of the IO from the beginning. It appears that the NTSC folks were made happy by the last driver release- let’s hope the next one does the same for PAL!
