Jittery footage
Posted by Steven Berry on December 8, 2009 at 1:49 pmHey everyone, just had a question about some jittery footage in Final Cut Pro.
The footage looks fine in the source window and everywhere else, but when I add it to the timeline it seems to have a “strobe” effect applied.
I’ve tried exporting the footage and some clips still have the jitters.
Any suggestions?

December 8, 2009 at 2:24 pmWhat are your sequence settings, and what are the properties of the clips you’re putting in that sequence? Sounds like you have a field order problem.

December 8, 2009 at 2:49 pmIt’s only on selected clips, checking settings now.
Is there anything that would cause some clips to strobe and others not to?

December 8, 2009 at 5:01 pmLighting could strobe footage, indoor fluorescent lighting for instance can flicker footage, Slow Shutter Speed … and like Jerry stated the fields can contribute to that as well.
If your settings are all correct and the Field Dominance matches your sequence settings … I would look into FurnaceCore’s Plug-In: DeFlicker Filter. For me it worked great.
Our issue was we shot a project in Australia and the lighting there runs differently than here. So when we came back to the States our editing bay saw the Fluorescent Flicker … FurnaceCore’s flicker filter was the best and easiest way to fix that.
Nothing else worked in the default effects of FCP or AE CS3.

December 8, 2009 at 5:33 pmIt’s more of strobe or motion effect than a flicker. Looking for a solution within the settings, or atleast without adding any more plugins

December 9, 2009 at 3:18 pmHave you tried the Flicker Filter in FCP??? and maybe even the Shift Fields effect?? Or a combination of the 2??
