  • Jagged horizontal lines on exported QT movie

My sequence is HDV 1080 50i using a mix of sources (HDV, .mov etc) that have been rendered to play smoothly in the sequence. I see no jagged horizontal lines on playback on my Digital Cinema Desktop screen. I have tried exporting as a QT movie using current settings and changing this to 1080 50i and also changing the field dominance, but I get the same results, jagged horizontal lines on motion segments, especially where there is high contrast on the edges of moving objects. The lines are not related to non HDV source clips.
I need to make QT movies to import into IDVD. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Use a professional video monitor. The i in 1080i is interlacing, that’s what you’re seeing, it’s supposed to be there. Do a search on this forum and you may see hundreds of posts about it.

You can never see what you get w/o a video monitor. That being said, you can turn on High Quality in QT in the Show Movie Properties>Video Track dialog. You can also put your Canvas at 100% to see an approximation of your output.

Improper monitoring causes a majority of the confusion with FCP when it comes to quality control. Get yourself an HD monitor so you can have a smoother workflow.
