  • jagged edges when downconvert to from 1080p to DV

Posted by Jeffchamlee on June 7, 2007 at 1:00 pm

i’m hoping someone has a suggestion for me. i’m importing a clip my 3D artist rendered in 1080p to a SD DV timeline in FCP. It resizes the clip and looks smooth before it’s rendered in the timeline. After I render the timeline, the edges of the animation look jagged. i feel like this has happened to me before in the ‘downconvert’ process.

    any suggestions?

    thanks!

[jeffchamlee] “After I render the timeline, the edges of the animation look jagged.”

That could because you’re rendering to DV (not the greatest for graphics). Just as a test, change the compressor of your timeline to DV50 (DVCPRO50) which is better for graphics, render just the animation, and see how it looks.

Also, check the Motion Filtering Quality in the Sequence Settings – Video Processing tab. Make sure it’s set to high quality.

You could also use compressor to downconvert the footage to DV too.
