    Hello,

I am using blackmagic (HD Decklink) to capture digibeta footage, and have an offer to buy the J3sdi. I understand the difference between the J30sdi and j3sdi is that the j30sdi has a firewire. Is this is must have feature?

The deck I am looking to purchase (j3sdi) says it is in excellent condition with low hours. Can someone please advise if this is truly low hours, or is this too much to buy for a used deck.

    Ope Hours – 28641
    Drum Hours – 2285
    Tape Hours – 2030
    Thread Count – 3820
    Reel Shift – 655
    Drum Hours r – 2285
    Tape Hours r – 2030
    Thread Count r – 3820
    Reel Shift r – 655
    Chara H-Pos – 8

    Thanks!

    Marcia

the Sony J3 was available in several configurations.
The J3 with the BKJ-2 board was called the J-3/902.
If it does not have SDI output, the VTR is useless to you.

Firewire means nothing with professional broadcast products (like the Blackmagic cards, and everyone elses cards).

The head hours mean nothing if this VTR is from a rental company that beat the crap out of it, and it is all banged up. You are better off with a VTR that has been “babied” by a private owner or facility, than a VTR with low head hours from a professional rental company that has shipped the VTR all over the world, and it is beaten beyond recognition.
