I’ve created my videos in 4:3 but need them in 16:9 – doh!
Hi,
I have created three movies in Premiere Pro 2 (I have them as AVI files) as 4:3 screen size.
I have just found out I need them for a widescreen TV 16:9.
So from your experiences what is the best way of converting them.
I want to avoid streching them too much as I have interviews on their and the people will look like they are from a different planet.
And I need to avoid croping too much as things like borders and interview job titles (at the bottom of the screen) will be cut off.
Is there a way around this?
Can I do it in Adobe PP or need other software?Any suggestions or reccommendations would be greatly appreiated.

oh – the other thing is that the widescreen TV is actually a large computer monitor (about 45inch), so if I right about this, the normal TV safe margins don’t apply here.

Well, with all those restrictions, it may be a tad bit difficult. Can you email me 1 minute worth of video? If you don’t have a place to host the video, use http://www.yousendit.com
I have a few tools that may convert the video for you, but I don’t want to give you any incorrect answers without testing this out on my end.

Tricky. If it’s for computer monitor only, maybe deinterlacing is something to think about too.
You could sit your 4×3 footage at actual size (or mildly shrunk [80%?], even) and pixel aspect ratio on a series of attractive, perhaps sublty moving backgrounds – which will only show around the edges.
Building on this, you could “cut out” using masking / cropping different, interesting parts of your frames to add a level of interest as the key picture zone repositions to different parts of the screen – going “full frame” on the 4×3 when you need to …

InstantHD from Red Giant Software ($99) will work for you but expect some framing and cropping issues. The quality will be great.
