We just updated our Mac Pro file server to Mavericks and are getting poor read speeds over AFP. Went from 110mb/s to 20mb/s. Write speed is fine and the internal read and write speeds are fine. Tested the same thing on our other Mac Pro with an attached SAS Raid and had the same results. Seems to work fine on internal drives though. Anybody else having these issues?

You’re connecting to the server with finder by going to ‘connect to server’ typing in ‘afp://server IP address’, right? You’ve got jumbo frames and all systems connect correctly?

Might be time to give Bob Zelin a call. He’ll fix it.

Yes doing all of those, we rolled back to 10.8.5 and issue went away. I think there’s an issue with shared storage on PCI-E, anything we’ve tested with the internal storage over AFP has been fine.

Strange. We’ve used it successfully with an ATTO R680 as well as our current card, the Areca 1882x. We found AFP to be even faster with Mavs, especially over 10Gbe. It’s NSF mounts that have been the problem child for us.

Which ethernet switch card are you using? Small Tree? How about the PCI card?

We’re using a 2 port Small-Tree Card and the built in Ethernets, issues on both. Our Raid Card is a R680 as well. Did a clean install and still had the same issue.

Are your RAID’s Journaled? That’s the only thing I could think possibly could be the issue, since this is happening with 2 possibly 3 of our MP’s.

    Hi Devin –
you need to describe your setup. If your server is not setup correctly, you will have nothing but
aggrivation. Everything has to be configured correctly.
