  issues with color pickers

  I’ve been using the system (apple) color picker for some time rather than the AE color picker. Mainly for the ability to save swatches, move the sliders more accurately, and get color values from other places or applications on the screen. Normally it works fine, but every so often if I set a color for a parameter in ae, I will come back and revisit that parameter the values will be different (HSB), say applying a color to a ramp effect.
  This can be nerve wracking as I’m working with a client that has become anal regarding their colors. Also can or where are the swatches saved. I didn’t find much info on the color picker out there. How does everyone deal with getting and match colors exactly in AE?? Is there something I’m missing in the AE picker. Any help appreciated.
