Okay I’ll try my best to be clear with this:

My sound guy is doing the audio for my project on a pc. When he’s done with a section (we’ve broken a feature up into twenty minute sections for him) he gives us the audio back in the form of a wav or aif file so that we can join it up with the video which has been editted in final cut.

I keep all thee audio files in a seperate bin. In the bin the files have the correct time codes. A file I’ve been given that is 20.00.07 in duration is exactly that in the bin. However, when I move the audio from the bin onto the time line it shrinks. When the audio sits under the video on the timeline it is one to two second shorter than what it appears to be in the bin.

Further, my project contains some sequences that were shot in SD and some that are in HDV. 95% of the project is hdv. The thing is that when I move the audio onto one of the SD sequences it synchs up perfectly. The audio only shrinks when I move it onto one of the HDV sequences.

Hired out a cinema in about a months time for the screening of this film so I’m desperate to get this thing sorted asap. Please help! thanks for reading.

What frame rate are you working with?

This comes up so often that a search might answer the question, but try slowing the speed of the audio by .1%

Make sure your sample rates are all 48kHz

Sigh, there are so many people out there with that name! To be clear, my name is Steve Martin but I’m not a comedian or am I legendary. I do use Studio 2 though just like the better known celeb. instructor. Thanks, Steve.

Well, welcome anyway… All the stuff I said above still applies.
