Issues Matching Aspect Ratio
I am trying to export a Flying Logo from After Effects into Final Cut Pro, but every time I go into Final Cut Pro they aren’t matching up, and I really feel like I have the same settings for the two workflows.
The End format in FCP:
Frame Size: DV 720 x 480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC – CCIR 601 (720×480)
Anamorphic 16×9: CheckedI think that all the info you need from that end, and the footage looks normal when injested.
From After Effects:
NTSC DV – 720 x 480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Anamorphic (2:1)But when that’s selected it would aspect at 3:1 not 3:2
So when I bring the video in from After Effects to FCP, the ends aren’t reaching the sides, and obviously if I change the aspect ratio, it doesn’t look right within FCP.
Any thoughts?

Use the “DV Widescreen” preset in AE.

When FCP says ‘Anamorphic’ it’s referring to 16:9, when AE refers to ‘Anamorphic’ they mean 2:1 (the equivalent of 18:9).
Really both of these can be considered anamorphic, as the term only describes information being stretched from its ‘normal’ resolution by some process.
The problem here is two different development teams using the same term to mean two different things, it’s a headache but a good lesson in not taking things for granted. I learned early on to be cautious about every aspect of my footage.

Thanks. It seems kind of funny that, things like that wouldn’t be standard across all platforms, from AE to FCP to AVID, etc. So does Adobe Premier do the same thing that AE does or is it more in line with FCP?

I am still having this issue of the aspect ratio, and now I’m really getting confused and don’t really know what to do?
I have even exported out a scene from FCP, imported it into AE and did what I needed to in AE to make my flying logo work. Then rendered that out, brought it into FCP, and it’s still way off?
Why is this the issue, do I need to go back to the original PSD file and change the Aspect Ratio on that, so it’s the same all the way through?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
