Issue capturing to ProRes 422
Hi guys we are having an issue capturing to Pro Res 422 on an 8 core machine with 4 GB of Ram.
(MacOS 10.6.1, Decklink 7.3.1)
We are trying to capture the output of an XBox 330 using component.
What happens is that the picture and sound come in fine. (Component and digital built in) but when we start capturing (720p60) we get a flash of black every 100 frames or so.Changing frame rates or size seems to make no difference. The only change we can make that works is changing the compressor to DVCPro. It’s not a FCP thing as it will do this in Media Express as well.
We also tried upgrading to Final Cut Studio 3 with no change.
Even stranger is that I tried this on my machine at home and it works perfectly.
Machine is identical in every way to the work one but has more ram (8 GB).Any ideas?

Ok so I figured it out for myself.
Even after clean installs of Snow Leopard, FCS3 and Decklink drivers the problem remained.
Every time you captured to pro res you would get intermittent flashes of black.Then I thought I would check out the Expansion Slot Utility which lives in the Core Services folder in your System Library.
BINGO!
This MacPro uses Apple Fibre channel and it was hogging all the bandwidth. Decklink card was only set to “1X”. So changed it to configuration “2” where Fibre and Decklink both run at “4X” and the problem is solved.
I guess this is only an issue for the MacPro pre 2008
