Isn’t there a single user out there that is freaking out that AVID has finally wrote drivers for the AJA I/O Express, so you don’t have to buy an AVID Mojo ?

    i am 🙂

was just showing it today (the io express) to a client at a local pro video event and telling him how i wished avid would go AjA, making the io express a mac/pc desktop/laptop all apps solution… my prediction was april 🙂

that said… the “whats new” list is somewhat disappointing,
and not in an all-whats-new-lists-are kind of way

i just hope many things are (as usual) left unmentioned
was waiting for this update. MC5 has some weak spots, much under the hood work to do.

and with the rise of the AG 100/1, better avchd support could have been nice too. theres gona be a lot of that coming

    oh well…

I am VERY excited. I have been playing with it for a few weeks now to help get it working (I’m on the beta), and when I was able to capture my first clip…I jumped for joy and ran out of my bay…and stood there because I could tell NO ONE about this. FINALLY, I can let it all out.

    IT IS REALLY FRICKIN’ COOL!

I REALLY want things to boil down to one card I can use with FCP and Avid that covers all my needs. The IO Express is close…might even be close enough.

ok… wow 🙂 now i just ran out of my room with my hands in the air.

this is huge. and even if its the only considerable upgrade in 5.5 it deserves the semi new version status

Yes, I’m excited, and waving my hands — especially since this TV station is about to replace two systems — maybe pulling the trigger this week.
Now, my Avid experience is with the dedicated hardware: Symphony Nitris DX, MC Adrenaline, MC Meridien (still chugging along beautifully, thank you). I assume this is essentially an MC software system with no performance boost from the Aja box.

So I’m doing homework in a hurry:
MC 5.5 is 32-bit. Any problem running it on an Adobe CS5-friendly 64-bit box?

What’s the MC software realtime performance like? Specifically, performance on a z400 box, compared to Premiere Pro CS5 using Matrox LE hardware (the current plan).
    On a z800 box?
    Using SD 2:1 media?
    Using XDCAM EX via AMA?

I’m working on getting a demo, but what’s the real world experience out there using MC software for SD online?

This is AVID’s chance to get back into the game for the smaller shops. Let’s see if Apple does a decent new release – if they don’t – it might be HELLO AVID all over again.

The supported hardware list says no RS422. What does that mean? No RS422 controlled capture and digital cut?

Biggest bummer: limited project types are supported. No film rates in SD, for instance. https://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/attach/HW-Capabilities_Public_1.0.pdf

MC is 64 bits. this version will be the last to work on 32 bit system.
