Is there some type of audio offset in FCP when importing?
Hello all!
Is there some type of audio offset located somewhere in FCP? I was having this similar issue a while back and thought it was something else. But this time, I have a new file I’m working with all together and I just imported it and the audio is offset by 2 seconds. I thought this problem came from other sources, but there must be something in FCP that is causing this. Could this be a drop-frame non-drop frame issue? Drop frame is checked in the Timeline Options. Is it maybe something else? -

Is this a file supplied to you or are we talking about a capture issue?
Some basic info about file type, capture technique & settings and sequence settings will also help us guess better.

Okay,
I captured the footage both times from MiniDV. I used a JVC MiniDV/HDD/DVD deck to capture via Firewire. I used Easy Setup DV/DVCPRO NTSC to capture. The clip is 29.97
My sequence settings are:
Frame Size: 720×480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC
29.97
Quiktime Vid Settings:
Compressor: DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
Quality: 100%
Audio: 48kHz
Depth: 16 bitTimeline: Drop Frame box is checked
Starting code: 00:58:30;00
Render Control
Filters and Frame BLending are checked.
Grame Rate and Resolution: 100%
Codec is same as sequence
Master Template: Best -
My first guess is that the DV tape might have audio at 32Khz, not 48khz.
Of course trashing preferences/ repairing permissions is always advised when FCP plays up, particularly, I find, when capturing via firewire.
The other issue is possible conflicts with firewire. Are there any other firewire devices on the same us as the capture device?

Yes, I’m using an Apogee A/D converter. This is plugged into the back of the computer and the MiniDV deck is plugged into the front. Both are operating at the same time. I tried trashing my preferences sometime back for the same issue with no change. Would there be another way to use my Apogee?

I can only suggest restarting with the Apogee unplugged and see if that helps.

That sounds like FireWire latency. The Apogee and the DV deck are different signal paths, and the time taken to do the video FW transfer to the deck is giving you the offset.Listen to the audio from the deck’s audio outputs, then everything will retain sync.
