Is there anyone who can help me on this? DVCPro HD to SD
Hi all!
OK, here is my scenario:
I have recieved a bunch of materail shot in DVCPro HD. The final result is going to be in SD.
I´m creating an intro in After Effects shot with SD wich is going to be included in the final film.So, which is the best workflow for this? I would like to be able to view the intro together with the DVCPro HD edit and then somehow convert the HD material to SD when the edit is locked.
What is the recomended format going from DVCPro HD (which is 1440×1080) to SD?
Should I render the SD intro in 10bit uncompressedand downconvert the HD to that also?

a lot depends on your version of FCP.
FCP6 has the Prores codec, which is virtually indistinguishable from uncompressed,
with much lower bandwidth,
and better RT playback support for mixed codecs.i’d cut in an SD ProRs timeline, set to Dynamic RT.

I have FCS6.
I´ve just dropped a DVCPro HD clip in a ProRes 16:9 FHA timeline and every thing works super! Even the aspect ratio is correct. When I dropped it to an uncompressed 10bit timeline the aspect ratio wasn´t correct.What do you mean “render in down time”?
Should I finnish my edit in ProRes and just hit render when I´m done?

i probably should know what FHA is, but i don’t, sorry.
i’m suggesting you work in a Standard Def anamorphic timeline,
as that’s what you need to deliver.
in theory FCP should fit clips correctly,
but if it doesn’t, you can always go into the Motion Tab > Distortion to adjust them.[Göran Thorén] “What do you mean “render in down time”?

or if you’re on the phone..whateveryou can set “Autorender” to kick off after a certain amount of inactivity.
that’s in your user prefs (Option Q)that will render any type of render you have ticked in Sequence Menu > Render Selected

FHA means “Full Height Anamorphic”.
Super thank´s for your help!I´m aware of altering aspect ratio in the motipn tab but I just couldn´t figure out what to set it to when i dropped the 1440×1080 clips into an SD anamorphic timeline. I thought FCF would handle that automatic but it just didn´t. Anyhow, your suggestion on working in ProRes really works great for me.
