  • Is there any way to PLAYBACK footage in Sony Vegas Pro 13 faster/slower?

I am wondering if there is any way to speed or slow the preview without affecting the clip itself (eg. No I do not want to use velocity envelopes or time-stretching). I just need the PREVIEW to be faster/slower because I need to cut down on editing time. Any advice?

Use the J K L keys. J is reverse, K is pause and L is forward. Pressing the J or L keys more than once speeds up or slows down playback. 1, 2, 4 & 8 times as I recall.

You can further adjust speed under Preferences|Editing|JKL/shuttle speed.

Exactly what I was looking for. And the chipmunk voice “side effect” of playing back speeded up footage is hilarious too. Thank you very much, Mike.

Another way – using the scrub control:

I use the small triangle node below the scrub control – drag it all the way to the right to set default playback at 4x speed, then use ENTER to playback at 4x and L to playback at 1x. You have to reset the node each time you restart Vegas though. Let me know if that helps.
