Is there any reason I cant use NTFS volume to back up FCP7 project and Media

No problem backing up to NTFS that I can see. The only negative I know about NTFS & Mac is that read write speeds may be less than the same drive on a Win machine.

If it is for backup and not RT playback & edit performance no problem. You can also test drive speed for editing performance using the free speed test utilities that both AJA and Blackmagic provide.

I have the Paragon NTFS for Mac® utility and with that installed it works fine. I’ve even done some editing on a MBP with the media on an NTFS drive!

Probably the most useful way of spending thirteen quid that I’ve come across.

Thanks, I was wondering because I tried using HFS for Windows and copied a Premiere Pro project and media to a Mac drives from windows and it seems to of lost some of the properties. When I reloaded I can to manually re-link each file;(.

Hi, everyone. I just backed up a big project to the NTFS drive and then tried to open it. When I went to set scratch disks most of the directories were grayed out (including the one I copied from the original drive.

Also when I look in the autosave valt for the backup Mac OS does not know the files are FCP projects, in finder it says they are simply of type ‘Document’.

OK, the problem was I was using Directory Sync Pro and it does not seem to sync file properties. I am now using aRsync which works like a dream.
