I am trying to create a new Avid project in version 6.5.2 with settings of NTSC DV/DVCPRO 720×480. I don’t get very far after inputting 30i NTSC. I can then select 4:3 but the raster reads 720 x 486 which is NTSC D1 and it’s greyed out…I can’t change it to 480. I’m trying to accommodate the native settings of several pre-existing Quicktime movies I will be importing (720 x 480) and transcoding to DV 24 411 MXF.

Is there any project setting available to me that will do this? Or should I just accept it as is…and make the scaling correction when I export a Quicktime reference movie for a standard def DVD? This is not for broadcast…it’s classroom use with students, etc.

Thanks for any advice that can be offered.

Avid makes it conform to 720×486, but it adds a top black bar. Avid can import and ingest native 720×480, but it forces it to conform to 720×480 in the project. You can go under the project settings and modify the Raster setting.
