Is there a way to soften the edge on the Edge Wipes in Media Composer
I want to soften the edge of the wipe for the “lower left diagonal” to take away the hardness of the line but I don’t see any way to do this. I tried to use the BCC Transitions filter as an alternative, but since my graphic that I’m fading out to is white, it tends to “pop” at the end of the transition, even after render.
Is there a way to soften this edge within the standard avid plug-ins? I thought that would be a given, but I don’t see any controls for it. Thanks.

Im not in front of my avid now 9and dont use wipes much either) but Id presume the softness is in the effect editor.
have you looked in the effect editor for your transition? 2 small horizontal sliders on a button?

Open up the effect editor and twirl down “Border”. You can change the softness and width of your edge.

I’ve looked in the effect editor and the only options to control are “foreground” and “scaling.”
For the foreground there isn’t even a slider to adjust. For the “scaling” it basically controls the angle at which the wipe occurs. There aren’t any other controls present.
It has the border controls you mentioned for horizontal and vertical, but not for the diagonal. It seems kind of strange that it would leave out those controls for the diagonal wipe.

I think there is no way to do it with the diagonal wipes. A good alternative is to use animatte as a transition. Draw a square that covers the screen with one diagonal edge, increase the softness and then animate off the screen with keyframes.

My apologies, I happened to have a horizontal edge wipe and looked at that and it does have softness control. Never occured to me that a diagonal would not. Sorry about that.
Andrew is a 100% right that you can use animate to create custom transitions.
