Is there a way to see items outside/overhanging the edges of the viewer?
Posted by Tim Vining on October 18, 2017 at 10:25 pmIs there a way to see items dragged outside or overhanging the borders of the viewer? I’m moving part of an image “offscreen” but I’d like to see the part that is offscreen while I am working with it.
Thanks!–Tim

October 19, 2017 at 6:28 amYou can press shift T (or click transform). That way you will see the area that is out of your frame.
Fix it in Pre.

October 19, 2017 at 3:06 pmOkay, thanks–bit of a drag. It seems like this should be a toggle on/off item, and not really that complicated to implement.

October 20, 2017 at 6:57 pmYou can set view title safe which gives you two frames over the image. Unfortunately it is hard to see the edge of the frame in this view and doesn’t show what is outside the frame.

Send in a feature request.
I’ve come to think that the X development team tends to work on “areas” of the software – working to improve sections cohesively as opposed to working on individual “features” in isolation.
At least that’s been my experience watching how they have delivered things in the past.
How X displays images “off the canvas” would likely come up when they are addressing how movement and display of image frames works globally in all areas of the software. So you’d get it (if they addressed it) across all the code. Not just in the Viewer – but during import, in the browser, in Multicam and similar reference clips, in export options, etc, etc.
My 2 cents.
(but I could easily be wrong)
