  • Is there a simple way of extruding a layer?

    Hello Everyone

I would like to find out if there is a way of giving a layer a ‘Z’ depht. I have read a tutorial here about doing something similar by using the ‘shatter’ effect. I do not think i would be able to apply those steps to my project (which is simply extruding a top bit of a crane as it turns into space).

    Best regards

You can do a quickie ae 3D depth by duplicating layers and separating them a wee bit, here’s a video tut, he separates the layers 3 pixels, you can do it closer:

If you want to make it easier you can add this expression to the Position of theduplicates of your layer (then you don’t have to seperate them manually, here 1 pixel apart (the *1 at the end of the expression):

    position+[0,0,(index-1)*1]

All of these close separations in 3D are a little suspect if you linger end-on as all AE 3D layers have no thickness.

I’m assuming you mean a mechanical crane, if so you could make 4 sides and position them in 3D space to make your crane.

    Dear Yikesmikes

thanks for your quick reply. yeah i thought of duplicating layers as well but i did not know how effective they would have been. ill try that way anyway. cheers again.
