  • Is there a problem with ENCORE AUTHORED DVDs playing Windows Media Player?

    Hi there

Ive just been commissioned for a job to make a DVD, but the DVD i sent to the guy didnt work in windows media player on his computer, everything else was fine. I need to make sure the DVDs will play in Windows Media Player….are there any known issues or anything like that I should be aware of?

    cheers!

A DVD will not play in Windows Media Player unless a software DVD player package has already been installed on the system, which also installs MPEG-2 video decoders. The reason is that MPEG-2 decoders (necessary for DVD playback) are licensed technology.

But then surely if I have POWER DVD installed it should work fine? Also he said that normal retail dvds that he owns work on the pc, just not the one i sent….?

    cheers

It should work if PowerDVD is installed.

I have PowerDVD installed, and I can also play my Encore-produced DVDs through WMP.

Hallelujah – another person with the Encore/WMP problem.

Even with PowerDVD installed, we still have problems with Windows Media Player playback of Encore authored DVDs.

Most people do not have a problem, but some do, including me. Power DVD plays anything.

I now put a note on our packaging “Compatible with most DVD players, and computers with compatible third party DVD playback software.”

It is not ideal, but we are left scratching our heads why this happens.

    Hi guys.

Is there any updates on anything like this?

I am using Encore CS3 and it is not allowing it to play in Windows Media Player.

Trying different work arounds, but ideally would like a solution if there has been one in the last 4 years!

    Cheers guys.

    Andy
