  • Is there 5.1 DD for HD ?

    Hi,
Looking at the render options in Vegas 7, when AC3 format is being selected it rules out HD. Is there, at all, HD that comes with 5.1 DD ? If yes, what option needs to be selected for rendering ?

AC-3 is audio only, so there is no direct relationship to your HD video.
What is your plan for exporting your HD project?

I know that AC3 refers to the audio but if one would like to render SD video with 5.1 DD this should be his selection within the redner, isn’t it ? Well, I wonder what should be the selection if the video is HD (I thougth to play in on the PC since I do not have HD or Blue Ray DVD recorder).

AC-3 is rendered separatly from the video.

OK. So on SD if one wants to end-up with DVD PAL with 5.1 DD he needs to have on the timeline Video part in mpg and Audio part in AC3 and render it all as DVD PAL – Right ? Will it be the same work flow while the Video mpg part will be HD ?

You’re getting confused. Here’s what you do.

Edit your SD video on the timeline. Adjust the audio apropriately for 5.1

Once all editing is done, render the video to MPEG2 (appropriate DVD Architect preset – adjust bitrate as needed) and the audio to AC3.

Now in DVD Architect, create your DVD from those two files.

Hey, the original question was about HD – Where this one was gone ?

Same principle will apply. The video stays separate from the audio until the authoring program puts it back together. Now it’s just a matter of finding an authoring program that can do HD and handle the 5.1 ac3 file.

Thx Edward. Will the Architect do that ?

DVD Architect is currently SD only. There are very few apps out there that can create Blu-Ray or HD-DVD discs.

Many, many people are capturing HDV, editing HDV, and then rendering to SD for distribution on DVD.
