I am looking at getting a camera for a big shoot next month but don’t want to spend the money for a current dvc pro camera. Is the JVC GY-HD100u comparable to the lower end DVCpro cameras picture quality. It uses 3 1/3rd chips. Thanks

Which cams do you mean? This forum relates mainly to the Panasonic HVX200 which will not be available for at least a few more months so not much info to be had here.

yes I know that the Panasonic Camera is not comming out till fall. Their is not a website for JVC. My question is the quaility of the new JVC and if anybody knows much about it. I went to NAB and was impressed with the Panasonic camera comming out but also saw that the next best camera might be the JVC.

JVC does have information on this camera. Try this link, or just go to jvc.com and follow the broadcast link. However, my understanding is that the JVC camera may not be shipping until August. Do a search on bhphoto.com and you’ll find it. Never called though. Maybe you can get your hands on one sooner? By the way, the Panasonic HVX200 lists for $10,000 on B&H.

[Brian] “… By the way, the Panasonic HVX200 lists for $10,000 on B&H. …”

Unfortunately, B&H doesn’t make clear what they plan to include with Panasonic’s HVX200 for that price. Panasonic has repeatedly indicated that for about $10K USD list the HVX200 will include two (2) P2 memory cards. I believe Panasonic has indicated the list price for the HVX200 alone (without any P2 cards) will be about $6K USD.

Hopefully B&H will update their website soon to clarify what their prices include.

If “wildman” is looking for information concerning JVC’s HD100 HDV camcorder he may wish to refer to the HDV forum here on the COW.

    All the best,
